5 arrested in connection with Gangachara violence

Five people have been arrested in connection with an attack on a Hindu neighbourhood in Aldadapur Balapara of Gangachara upazila, Rangpur.

The attack, which occurred amid allegations of religious insult, involved vandalism, looting, and the assault of police officers. According to a statement from the Police Headquarters on Wednesday, unidentified individuals targeted the Hindu area, causing significant damage to property, looting, and physically assaulting law enforcement officers.

The incident has sparked tensions in the region, where religious and communal sensitivities are often high. A case was filed by Shree Rabindranath Roy, 55, who named 1,000 to 1,200 unknown assailants in the attack. Following a joint police operation, five suspects have been arrested in relation to the incident, with investigations ongoing.
