Five army officers have been called to court of inquiry for their alleged anti-people activities during last year’s July-August mass upsurge, highly placed sources said.
They have been kept under observation at Dhaka Cantonment.
According to the sources, the officers are Brig. Gen SM Zakaria Hussain (Engineers Brigade Commander during July-August), Brig. Gen Imran Hamid (46 Brigade Commander during July-August and former ADC to Sheikh Hasina), Col Abdullah Al-Momen (former ADG, RAB who ordered firing from a RAB helicopter on students and the general public during July-August), Lt. Col Muhammad Redwanul Islam (former CO BGB Dhaka, who was seen taking aimed shots with an SMG during July-August) and Major Md Noman Al Faruk (following orders of the 46 Brigade Commander, Brig Imran, he directed the Army patrol to fire on students and the general public while they were lying down.
Photos and footages of last two personnel in action against the students went viral on social media.
Being “called to a court of inquiry” means someone has been summoned to a formal process, often by a military, to investigate a specific incident or issue, potentially leading to disciplinary action or other consequences.
When contacted, Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) department refused to reply to a TOB query on the matter.
