At least four people were killed and 16 others injured when a passenger bus collided with a truck on the Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga Expressway in Srinagar, Munshiganj early Saturday morning.

The accident occurred around dawn near the Singpara underpass on the Dhaka-bound lane, opposite the Hasara Highway Police Station.

The deceased have been identified as Jalal Uddin and Zillur Rahman from Jashore Sadar, Abdul Halim, and the truck’s helper, Hasib. The bus was transporting passengers from Noapara in Jashore to Dhaka to attend a grand rally organised by Islami Andolan Bangladesh.

Dewan Azad Hossain, an officer of Srinagar Fire Station, confirmed the details, stating that the night coach from Hamdan Paribahan lost control and rammed into the rear of a moving truck. Both vehicles subsequently veered off and hit the road divider, causing extensive damage.

Two bus passengers died at the scene, while two more — including the truck’s helper — succumbed to their injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. At least 16 others were injured, several of them critically.

Hasara Highway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Kader Jilani said the vehicles involved were removed from the site shortly after the incident, restoring normal traffic flow. However, both drivers fled the scene.

Highway police, local administration, and rescue teams jointly responded to the crash. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
