Three people of a same family sustained severe burns in an electric transformer explosion at a house in Gendaria of the capital early Friday.
The burnt victims were Moslem Uddin, 65, his wife Salma Begum, 50, and their son Mejbah Uddin, 28. The burnt victims have been admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
The accident took place at a house on Gandaria Haricharan Road around 2am on Friday.
Relatives said that the family lives on the second floor of the house. An electricity transformer next to the house exploded in the middle of the night. The fire spread up the the house, leaving three members of the family injured. They were rescued in the morning and brought to the burn institute.
Dr Sultan Mahmud Sikder, resident surgeon (acting) of the burn institute’s emergency department, said that Moslem suffered than 90 per cent burn injuries while Salma 55 per cent and Mejbah 100 per cent. According to doctors, their condition is said to be critical, he added
