Police have arrested three additional suspects late Tuesday in connection with the murder of Shahriar Alam Shammo, a student at Dhaka University’s Institute of Education and Research.

The arrests came about as a result of university authorities successfully coordinating with law enforcement; however, details of the arrests have not yet been disclosed at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, during a meeting with DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Neaz Ahmed Khan on Wednesday, Shammo’s father, Md Fakhrul Alam, expressed satisfaction with the varsity administration’s ongoing efforts, thanking the vice chancellor for his support.

“The university is working impartially to ensure proper justice, staying above all political considerations,” the DU VC assured, pledging continued assistance to the grieving family.

The meeting was attended by DU Treasurer Prof M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Proctor Associate Prof Saifuddin Ahmed, and Shammo’s three brothers.

In parallel, student protesters under the banner “Students Against Terrorism” staged an approximate 90-minute sit-in outside the proctor’s office, demanding the VC and proctor’s resignation for alleged security failures on campus.

However, Chhatra Dal activists have continued protests despite the 3 new arrests, with one protester claiming: “Eight days have passed with no progress in the investigation,” indicating that the real killer is still at large.
