At least three people, including a woman, were killed and 15 others injured in a head-on collision between two passenger buses on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway near the Kanaipur New Bridge in Faridpur on Thursday afternoon.
The accident occurred around 12:30pm when a Dhaka-bound bus of Royal Express from Jashore collided with a Chuadanga-bound bus of Darshana Deluxe coming from Dhaka, according to police, fire service officials, and local sources.
The deceased include one woman and two men. Their identities have not yet been confirmed. The injured were taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for treatment.
The crash caused significant traffic congestion on the highway, which was later cleared by members of the police and fire service.
Faridpur Fire Service Senior Station Officer Md Nazrul Islam confirmed the incident, stating that rescue efforts were carried out promptly and the injured were transported to the hospital.
Officer-in-Charge of Karimpur Highway Police Station, Md. Salauddin Chowdhury, said that one woman died at the scene while two men succumbed to their injuries after being taken to the hospital. Further details about the victims are yet to be confirmed.
