Twenty-six Bangladeshi expatriates arrested during protests supporting the July mass uprising in the UAE remain imprisoned, according to a Monday press conference by NCP’s Diaspora Alliance at the party’s offices in Banglamotor, demanding their immediate release.
NCP chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary stated that, during the peak of Bangladesh’s July 2024 movement, expatriates worldwide held demonstrations, including the UAE, where several people were arrested, and received varying jail terms.
While the interim government secured releases for many after the Awami League government’s ouster, 26 Bangladeshis remain incarcerated in Emirati prisons, leaving their family members in trouble.
The alliance urged Bangladesh’s Home, Foreign, and Expatriate Welfare Ministries to expedite efforts for their repatriation. NCP joint convener Mahbub Alam attended the press conference alongside the relatives of five detained expatriates.
Frustrated families accused the government of indifference toward resolving the cases, condemning its perceived inaction despite repeated appeals.
