A 25-year-old man named Deep Roy has died from COVID-19 in Khulna, marking the first virus-related fatality reported in the district this year.

He passed away on Sunday night while receiving treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH), confirmed Dr Khan Ahmed Ishtiaq, Residential Medical Officer and focal person of the hospital’s COVID-19 unit.

Deep Roy, a resident of the Swapnopuri area in Batiaghata upazila, was initially admitted to a private hospital in the city. As his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to the KMCH ICU on Sunday afternoon.

He died later that night during treatment, Dr Ishtiaq said.

Health authorities have noted a slight rise in infections in recent weeks, particularly among individuals with underlying conditions. Doctors and public health experts are urging people to remain cautious and ensure booster vaccinations are up to date, especially in high-risk districts.
