Twenty-five newly appointed additional judges of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court took their oath of office on Tuesday.
The oath-taking ceremony was held on Tuesday afternoon at the Judges’ Lounge of the Supreme Court, where Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed administered the oath.
The event was conducted by Supreme Court Registrar (Judicial) Md Moazzem Hossain.
The appointments were officially announced on Monday night through a gazette notification issued by the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
Among the 25 appointees, nine are judicial officers, nine are practicing lawyers of the Supreme Court, and seven are law officers. Their appointments as additional judges take immediate effect following the oath.
According to the official notification, the President made the appointments under Article 98 of the Constitution, in consultation with the Chief Justice, as per Article 95(1). The judges have been appointed for a term not exceeding two years.
