A fresh consignment of 202 metric tonnes of onions has arrived in Bangladesh from India through the Bhomra land port in Satkhira, marking the resumption of onion imports after a suspension of over four months.

Abu Musa, General Secretary of the Bhomra C&F Agents Association, confirmed the arrival of the onions, which were transported in seven trucks. The consignment was imported by M/s Ayon Traders. Several more trucks carrying onions are awaiting clearance at India’s Ghojadanga land port.

Md Shawkat Hossain, Assistant Commissioner of Bhomra Customs, mentioned that the last consignment of onions through the land port had arrived on March 27 this year.

The resumption of onion imports comes following a directive from Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin, who announced the move on August 12 as part of efforts to stabilise onion prices in the domestic market.
