Law enforcement agencies have arrested 20 fugitives in connection with the killing of a Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) member during an anti-crime operation in Jungle Salimpur area of Sitakunda upazila.
Earlier, 19 January, RAB personnel launched a drive to apprehend armed criminals in the area. During the operation, the team came under a sudden attack by the assailants, leaving four RAB members seriously injured.
The injured members were rushed to Chattogram Combined Military Hospital, where on-duty doctors declared DAD Abdul Motaleb dead.
Following the incident, RAB-7 Chattogram filed a murder case with Sitakunda Police Station on 22 January, naming 29 individuals as accused and including another 150 to 200 unidentified persons.
Since then, both RAB-7 and district police have conducted separate drives to arrest those involved. So far, 13 suspects have been detained by RAB-7, while another seven have been arrested by district police, bringing the total number of arrests to 20.
According to RAB sources, the latest arrest was made early on Friday, when a joint team of RAB-7 Chattogram and RAB-11 Narayanganj apprehended Md Parvez, 35, from Nabagram under Kabirhat Police Station in Noakhali district.
He is listed as the 29th accused in the case and is a resident of Jungle Salimpur. Authorities said drives are ongoing to arrest the remaining accused.
