Two leaders have resigned from the Sonagazi Upazila committee of the National Citizen Party (NCP), just a month after the committee’s formation. The resignations were announced through Facebook posts on Friday night.
The two resigning members are Ismail Hossain and Alauddin. They were included as members in the 20-member Sonagazi Upazila committee, which was announced on June 20, following a decision by the NCP central leadership.
In his Facebook post, Ismail Hossain wrote, “I am resigning from the NCP Sonagazi Upazila post.” Speaking to the media, he said, “I come from a BNP family background. Due to my long involvement with BNP politics, I have faced legal harassment. I was neither informed in advance about being included in the NCP committee nor did I participate in any of their programs. That’s why I resigned.”
Alauddin also posted a similar status on Facebook, stating that he was stepping down from his position as a member of the Sonagazi Upazila NCP committee.
In response, Abdullah Al Mamun, coordinator of the Sonagazi Upazila NCP, said Alauddin had informed him personally that he was not interested in working at the upazila level and preferred to engage with the district committee. However, he added that Ismail Hossain had not communicated anything to the committee.
