At least two people were killed in wild elephant attacks within a span of an hour and a half in the Gajni area of Jhenaigati in Sherpur.
The incidents occurred on Tuesday around 8:30pm at Darbeshchala and the Gajni Chourasta area. The victims are identified as Azizur Rahman Akash (45), a farmer from Darbeshchala, and Philis Marak (42), a Garo worker from the Gajni area.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jhenaigati Police Station, Al-Amin, confirmed the deaths, stating that the wild elephants had come down from the hills in search of food. The victims were reportedly trying to protect ripe boro paddy fields when the animals launched the attack.
Both victims were trampled by the elephants, suffered severe internal injuries. They were taken to the hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
The back-to-back attacks have created widespread panic in the area, police added.
