Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, claimed that the unresolved issues regarding the 1971 Liberation War, including the apology for genocide, were addressed twice.

Ishaq Dar made this statement after a meeting with Bangladesh’s Foreign Adviser, Touhid Hossain, at the Hotel Sonargaon in the capital on Sunday.

When asked about the unresolved issues discussed during the meeting, Dar explained that the matter had been settled first in 1974, followed by another resolution in the early 2000s when General Pervez Musharraf visited Bangladesh and publicly addressed the issue.

“Both countries have resolved the matter twice—once in 1974 and again in the early 2000s,” Dar said.

He emphasised that both nations now seek to take their economic and trade relations to new heights, adding that Muslims have been urged to focus on clearing their minds for the future. Dar also expressed a strong commitment to moving forward, leaving the past behind.

Before the meeting with Touhid Hossain, Dar also met with Bangladesh’s National Security Adviser and other key officials, including the Commerce Adviser and the Interior Adviser. During these talks, one agreement and four Memorandums of Understanding were signed. Additionally, Bangladesh’s Commerce Minister announced that air travel between the two countries would begin within two months.

According to sources, the talks centered around enhancing bilateral ties, particularly in trade and cooperation.
