Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained 18 individuals who were pushed into Bangladesh through the Baralekha frontier in Moulvibazar. Among them, one has been identified as a Bangladeshi national, while the remaining 17 are displaced citizens of Myanmar.
According to BGB sources, the incident occurred around 7:30am on Tuesday nearly 500 yards inside the Shahbazpur Tea Garden area. At that time, India’s Border Security Force (BSF) forced the group consisting of four men, five women, and eight children into Bangladeshi territory. BGB patrol members immediately apprehended them.
BGB further said, once their identities are fully verified, the detainees will be handed over to Barlekha Police Station for subsequent legal procedures.
The development was confirmed to the media by Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Ariful Haque Chowdhury, Commanding Officer of BGB’s 52 Battalion in Beanibazar.
