Seventeen trucks carrying food products from PRAN were halted at the Burimari border due to new import restrictions imposed by India. The trucks were scheduled to cross into West Bengal’s Siliguri on Sunday morning.
Loaded with a variety of food items for export by PRAN-RFL Group, the trucks arrived at the Bangladeshi side of the Burimari land port on Saturday.
However, on the same day, India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry imposed new restrictions on the import of several Bangladeshi products via land routes, including garments.
The Indian land port authorities began enforcing the new rules immediately, resulting in the trucks being stranded at the border.
“Due to the Indian government’s new restrictions, 17 of our trucks carrying food products have been stuck at the Burimari land port. We are now bringing the trucks back,” said a senior official at the PRAN-RFL Group.
According to him, the goods on board were worth approximately Tk 1.25 crore.
“Given the restrictions, we have decided not to send any new consignments via land routes for now. We’ll review the situation and decide on our next steps accordingly,” he added.
