As many as 144 acres of forest land in Purbachal of Dhaka have been freed from illegal occupation in a significant move to protect biodiversity and conserve forest land.
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change conducted the demolition drive and recovered the land on Monday.
A total of 155 houses, belonging to 44 families, were demolished in the drive. The recovered land worth approximately Tk 70 crore is now officially free from encroachment.
The drive was led by the Divisional Forest Officer, Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Division, Dhaka, with support from various forces, including the Rupganj Army Camp, RAB-1, BGB, Kaliganj Upazila Administration, Kaliganj Police Station, RAJUK, and the Forest Department.
This operation is part of the government’s ongoing commitment to maintaining forest ecosystems and preserving natural resources.
The ministry has affirmed that it will continue to take strict actions to prevent illegal encroachments and safeguard the environment.
