Bangladesh Army’s 86 Independent Signal Brigade conducted a targeted raid in Dhaka’s Matikata area, arresting 10 active members of the notorious “Hitlu Babu Gang” and recovering a significant weapons cache, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Bhashantek army camp received complaints from locals about disrupting activities of the juvenile gang, who were under surveillance for an extended period of time.
The raid, based on verified intelligence, yielded three automatic pistols, one revolver, and 28 rounds of ammunition along with other equipment.
The late-night operation started around 2am on Tuesday. After accumulating more intelligence on the gang, the drive was conducted around 5am in the area.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, gang members attempted to attack the patrol team when escape became impossible, prompting soldiers to fire warning shots to control the situation. The suspects were subsequently apprehended after failing to flee.
Locals expressed relief and praised the army’s swift and decisive action to improve safety in the area. People have been urged to report any suspicious or criminal activity to the nearest army camp or law enforcement agency.
